17 reported dead from sinking boat carrying wedding party
Eight passengers have survived, 17 are deceased and the remaining 24 are unaccounted for from the Jabal Nur ship that was reported missing on Monday night. The boat sank in the Bali Strait on Tuesday, reports ANTARA news agency.
The National Disaster Mitigation Board (BNPB) sent a helicopter to rescue victims, said BNPB chairman Sutopo Purwo in a written statement.
The captain of the ship, Udin, was one of the survivors, said Sutopo.
The ship was on its way from Raas island, Madura, East Java to Puteran Village, Singaraja, Bali for a wedding.
