Bali voted Asia’s best island

Bali topped Travel + Leisure magazine’s 2014 list for best island in Asia and made number five for its Top 10 Islands in the World, announced the Jakarta Post. 

Ahead of Bali on the world list were Santorini, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii. Rankings were determined by the magazine’s readers from a survey held December 2013 to March 2014. The survey covered the island’s natural views, beaches, tourist attractions, food and restaurants and the friendliness of the people. Clearly the people who vote for Bali have never been faced rush hour in Kuta and Denpasar.

This is not the first time Bali received a nod from Travel + Leisure. From 2009-2011, Bali was voted Asia’s best, and was ranked second in 2012 and third in 2013. 

Ketut Sudikerta, Bali’s deputy governor noted that this award signifies tourists’ trust in the island’s administration and tourism sector. “We have to build better tourist attractions, improve the ones that we have already have, preserve the natural beauty of Bali and improve the island’s safety,” said Ketut, as quoted by Antara news agency. 

Hopefully this means the administration will do more to address the natural beauty of the trash floating around Bali and the public safety amidst so many reported ATM scams and robberies.
