Murder victim Mayang Prasetyo mourned in Bali

The horrific death of Indonesian transgendered woman Mayang Prasetyo, 27, is being grieved by her friends in Bali.

She made international headlines yesterday when reports started surfacing that her dismembered remains were discovered boiling on the stove in her Brisbane apartment. Prasetyo was allegedly killed by partner Marcus Volke, 28, who committed suicide shortly after police found Prasetyo. 

Prasetyo most recently lived in Bali, where a prayer service was held for her on Tuesday night, reported the AAP. In attendance were her friends, neighbors and members of the LGBT community. 

Her friend Albert was among them. “We never expected she would end up like this, and that her boyfriend would have the heart to do that,” he said, as quoted by the AAP. 

Prasetyo, a sex worker, would send money to her daily in Indonesia to help her single mother and two younger sisters. 

Nining Sukarni, Prasetyo’s mother, hopes her daughter’s remains can be sent to Lampung for burial.
