It was a peaceful yet solemn occasion on Sunday when families of the victims came together to remember the 12th anniversary of the first tragic Bali bombing.

The families were joined by a mass of foreign tourists at the bombing memorial in Legian, where fresh flowers were laid out.

Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika and Australian Consulate General Majell Hind joined representatives of the victim’s families in paying their respects to the 202 victims, according to Antara news agency.

During the commemoration, Pastika pushed for forgiveness as a means of moving forward. ”No matter what your religion, skin color, or your work are, let us preserve the peace and tolerance,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

Pastika was the head investigator chief of the first Bali bombing that hit Paddy’s Bar and the Sari Club in Kuta in 2002.

This anniversary comes just 11 days after the anniversary of the second Bali bombing that occurred in 2005.
